I am an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University. I am also the co-director of the postbaccalaureate certificate program - a one-year program to prepare non-traditional students for math PhD programs. My research is primarily concerned with commutative and computational algebra and algebraic geometry. My advisor was Sankar Dutta. Previously I held positions at the University of California-Riverside, MSRI, and Rider University.

NEWS AND TRAVEL PLANS

 

November 22-26, 2023: I will be speaking at the The 44th Japan Symposium on Commutative Algebra in Hayama, Japan.

April 14 - 16, 2023: I will be giving a 3-talk lecture series at the Graduate Workshop "Syzygies and Regularity" at the University of Illinois - Chicago.  The workshop also features Dan Erman, Wenbo Niu, and Juliette Bruce.

April 1, 2023: Christine Berkesch, Dan Erman, and I are organizing the next meeting of CA+ to occur at the University of Minnesota.  The meeting will be in-person and we expect most participants to drive, though there is limited funding for flying participants.

February 9, 2023: I gave a talk at Oberwolfach on my joint paper with Matt Mastroeni entitled Chow rings of matroids are Koszul.

April 30 - May 1, 2022: Christine Berkesch, Dan Erman, and I are organizing the next meeting of CA+ to occur at Iowa State University.  The meeting will be in-person.  We will be following CDC guidance on masks and distancing.  

October 30, 2021: Christine Berkesch, Dan Erman, and I are organizing the next meeting of CA+ to occur at the University of Minnesota.  The meeting will be in-person but is limited to driving participants.  We will be following CDC guidance on masks and distancing.  

October 29, 2021: Due date for ISMaRT applications for the Spring undergraduate math research projects.  I will be managing the program for the next couple years.  See here for more info.

October 9-10, 2021: Alexandra Seceleanu and I are organizing a Special Session on Commutative Algebra at the Fall Central AMS Section Meeting at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.  This is now a virtual meeting.

August 2021: I have signed the Elsevier boycott and will no longer publish, referee, or do editorial work for any Elsevier Journal.

August 2021: I started as co-director of the 1-year Postbaccalaureate Certificate program at ISU with Bernard Lidický.  This is a program designed to prepare non-traditional students for entry into graduate math programs.  We especially welcome applications from under-represented minorities but the program is open to all.  Email me or Prof. Lidický for any questions.

March 26 and April 2, 2021: I will be giving a series of 2 talks on Rees-like algebras for the Virtual Commutative Algebra Seminar at IIT Bombay.

April 18-19, 2020: Iowa State will be hosting CA+, a regional commutative algebra conference, in conjunction with the Universities of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
