Harmonic Motion

The applet below illustrates harmonic motion. The red graph is sin(x), and the green graph is a general sinusoidal function Asin(kx-B). Use the sliders to explore the effects of changing the amplitude, period, and phase shift by changing A, k, and B.

Recall:

• amplitude = |A|
• period = (2*pi)/k
• phase shift = B/k
