MathPro Instructions
The MathPak5 CD-ROM that came with your textbook has two purposes:
- Link to the MathPak5
web site for the Sullivan Precalculus text. But you don't need the CD-ROM
for that, there are links on our course web site which do the same thing. The MathPak5
web site contains the Student Solutions Manual, Graphing Calculator Help, Reading Quizzes,
and links to other interesting and fun math sites. When
you first access the site, you will need the access code that came with your
textbook.
- Install the MathPro5 package on your computer, and
link to the MathPro5 web site for our class. The MathPro5 CD and web site has video examples and practice problems
with step-by-step solutions. Personally, I am not very impressed with the
MathPro package, with the exception of the video examples. I have experienced poor
performance with the online examples and practice problems, but your mileage may
vary. However, I think that the video examples are nicely done,
and may be very helpful to you.
Installation of MathPro
The CD should run automatically, and it will lead you through the installation.
You will need two items of information:
- Access code: This comes with your textbook.
- Class code: 12303
Using MathPro Online
Insert your CD and cllick on the MathPro 5 Online
button. Or, you can just go
there from here.
The topics in the MathPro5 online syllabus are set up in
the order that they are covered in this course. You can work through the tutorial
for each topic, and view the video examples from within the tutorial (see below).
MathPro Video Examples
Short video examples are available by logging onto the MathPro
course site as above, looking at one of the topics, and clicking on the WATCH button.
The program will then play the corresponding video example which is located on your
CD.
However, if you are only interested in the video examples,
you can also access them directly on the CD:
- Look in the "SullPreCalc6e" folder on
your CD. Then just double-click on the movie you want to view.
- The movies are numbered according to the section numbers,
with the first two digits (three digits for chapters 10 and above) representing the
section number.
- Example 1: If you want to view the movies for section
2.3, you would look at movies sullprecalc6e231.mov, sullprecalc6e232.mov, etc.
- Example 2: If you want to view the movies for section
11.2, you would look at movies sullprecalc6e1121.mov, sullprecalc6e1122.mov, etc.
