The Latest News
Last update: Monday August 16
Recent announcements:
(dated in reverse order within each topic)
- General
- (July 12) Please review the Technical Notes page.
Pay particular attention to the section on "Supported browsers and operating
systems", and the new item (4) under "Problems and solutions". I have
had several people try to use an unsupported browser or an AOL connection and consequently
they have experienced problems. In addition, there is a bug in MapleTA which has
caused some problems (see item (4) for a complete explanation).
- It would be a good idea to print out the Technical
Notes page and go over the information on the page with your proctor.
- (July 5) I've just been informed by my fax service that they have instituted
a monthly limit on received faxes, and I have now exceeded the limit. As a result,
I've had to change my fax number to 707-476-4424. Please send signed proctor forms
to this new number. For other questions, it is best to use email, because I do not
pick up faxes from this new number very often.
- (June 30) Note: Please do not take pretests or exams after the deadline
date unless you have received special permission from me. I sometimes have to leave
these exams turned on in order to accommodate students with special circumstances.
However, if you take a pretest or exam after the deadline date without permission,
I will eventually see it and change the score to 0. So it will just be a waste of
your time and mine. Thanks for your cooperation.
- As pages on this web site are updated, they will be listed in the Recently
updated pages section below.
- Email advice: I receive about 100 email spams per
day, and it's always possible that your important email will get mixed up with the
junk. I certainly don't want to miss your email, so to minimize that possibility
please use the math141x@math.iastate.edu
or math142x@math.iastate.edu address
and include "Math 141" or "Math 142" in the subject line, as
appropriate. In addition, be sure to include your name somewhere in the body of the
email. If you have a question about an exam or pretest, tell me which exam and which
question number(s) you are referring to. This will help me to be able to send replies
more quickly. Thanks!
- Math 141

a good experience for you. Best wishes for a great fall semester!
- Math 142
- (Aug. 16) Final course grades for Math 142
have now been posted. Thank you for being in the class, and I hope that it has been
a good experience for you. Best wishes for a great fall semester!
- Help Resources
- (June 30) The MathPro CD-ROM and web site has video examples and practice problems
with step-by-step solutions. You will need a class
code to access the site. I have written a page of brief
instructions which tells you how to access the MathPro site (including the needed
code) and also how to access the video examples directly from the CD.
- (June 21) On the MathPak5
web site, you can find the Student Solutions Manual,
Graphing Calculator Help, Reading
Quizzes, and links to other interesting and fun math
sites.
