Rotation of Axes

Supplementary material on rotations of conic sections is provided in the form of a six page pamphlet. You can obtain the pamphlet in one of two ways: you can either purchase it in the University Bookstore for a nominal fee, or you can download it in Acrobat (pdf) form. Instructions on using Acrobat files are given below.

Viewing and Printing Acrobat files: If you have either a Windows or Macintosh computer at home, you will first need to install the free Acrobat Reader application, available via Scout or from the Adobe website, on your computer. You can then use Acrobat Reader to both view Acrobat files on your screen and print Acrobat files on your local printer.

You can also use Acrobat Reader in the Mathematics Computer Lab (449 Carver) to view and print Acrobat files. Ask the lab consultant for help if you need it.

Acrobat files can also be viewed and printed on Project Vincent. You must use the acroread command (available on alpha workstations only) to do this. Do NOT try to print an Acrobat file directly using lpr. Note also that each PV workstation has a default printer where the output will appear. The lpinfo command will tell you the name and location of that printer. If you use any machine not supported by the Computation Center, your output may go someplace unexpected, or disappear altogether. The -P parameter in lpr is used to redirect output. Finally, you should also be aware that the acroread command is buggy, so some documents may not display or print correctly.
