Trigonometry Final Exam

(Final Exam for Math 141
& Midterm Exam for Math 142)

Deadline: Friday August 16 (141) or Friday August 9 (142)

Material covered: sections 5.1-9, 6.1-5, and 7.1-2 from the textbook, plus supplementary material on circular motion.

Format: The exam is an online exam, similar to the unit exams. You will have two hours to complete the exam, and it counts 100 points toward your final grade. There are 39 questions, each worth 2 or 3 points. The exam is closed book and closed notes. However, you will be provided with a list of certain trigonometric identities (click here to see the list). You will need to use your graphing calculator.

You should arrange with your proctor to take the exam by the deadline date above. You may take the exam earlier if you wish. Be sure to arrange for a two-hour block of time.

At the end of the exam, you will be able to see your score, but you will not be able to immediately view the individual questions to see which ones you missed. However, after the deadline date is passed, you will be able to go back and look over your exam in detail.

Unlike the unit exams, you are only allowed to take the Trigonometry Final Exam twice.

Review material: The chapter reviews are a good way to start reviewing the material. Reread any sections which seem fuzzy to you. After that, you should do lots of problems from all of the material covered. Some sources of problems are:

• Review exercises at the end of each chapter. Answers are in the back of the book.
• You can download sample exams. These are old written exams from previous semesters, but keep in mind that the number of questions on the exam is limited, so the questions asked on the sample exams don't necessarily completely correspond to this semester's exam. Therefore, do not limit your studying to the sample exams alone.
• Practice unit exams on the computer. You may take as many practice exams as you want. Again, don't limit yourself to these. On midterm and final exams, some questions may use concepts from several sections, while the unit exam questions are usually limited to a smaller selection of material.
• Homework problems from the various sections.
• Review your old Unit Pretests and Unit Exams. Use the View Past Results link on the testing web site for Math 141 or Math 142.

Remember that you are not only required to learn to solve certain problems, but you also need to learn the material well enough to solve them in a fixed amount of time. You don't want to have to spend exam time trying to remember or figure out how to solve the problems. So practice until you can do the problems quickly and easily. That way you'll have time to go back and check your work carefully.

Conflicts and Illness: Exceptions will not be made for conflicts with the deadline date. If you have a conflict with the deadline date, be sure to arrange to take the exam earlier. On the other hand, if you are too ill to take the exam, contact the instructor as soon as possible to arrange for a makeup (and you should be prepared to send the instructor a note from your doctor in this case).
