I'm sorry, this is later than I'd intended. -- Ryan ================================================================= 2. *** CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - The SIAM Student Paper Prize *** ------ The SIAM STUDENT PAPER PRIZE is awarded every year to the student author(s) of the most outstanding paper(s) (up to three papers) submitted to the SIAM Student Paper Competition. This award is based solely on the merit and content of the student's contribution to the submitted paper. The prize recognizes outstanding scholarship by students in applied mathematics or scientific computing. The 2007 SIAM Student Paper Prize will be awarded in 2007 and recognized at the next SIAM Annual Meeting, to be held in 2008. Each prize recipient will receive a framed certificate plus a cash award of $1,000 and will have the opportunity to present his or her paper at the 2008 SIAM Annual Meeting. Recipients also receive $500 toward travel expenses and gratis registration for the meeting. Eligibility is restricted to students in good standing who do not yet hold the degree of PhD on the application deadline. Papers entered in the competition must have already been submitted for publication. Submissions may be based on co-authored papers. Instructions on how to submit a paper and other required documents can be found at www.siam.org/prizes/nominations/nom_student.php. All papers and accompanying documents must be received at the SIAM office on or before MARCH 15, 2007. Please address your submission to the SIAM Student Paper Prize Committee and send it to J. M. Littleton at littleton@siam.org. For inquiries, please contact littleton@siam.org. ================================================================= 3. *** Call for Submissions - CanaDAM 2007 *** ------ Canadian Discrete and Algorithmic Mathematics Conference 2007 May 28-31, 2007 Banff Conference Center, Banff, Alberta, Canada http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~mreza/CANADAM/ This is a new conference series on Discrete and Algorithmic Mathematics to be held in Canada every two years (in the odd years). The style of the conference will be similar to the SIAM Conferences on Discrete Mathematics, which meet in all even numbered years. The longterm organization is overseen by an Executive Committee currently consisting of Jason Brown, Derek Corneil (Chair), Pavol Hell, Ortrud Oellermann, Daniel Panario and Bruce Reed. Topics include, but are not limited to: Graph Theory and Combinatorics Designs, Codes, and Cryptography Discrete Optimization Computational Biology Combinatorial Geometry Probabilistic Methods Algorithms and Complexity Program Committee: Bill Cook (Georgia Tech) Pavol Hell (Simon Fraser U.) Random Combinatorial Structures is associated with the 11th Annual Rowlee Lecture (http://math.unl.edu/pi/events/Rowlee2007), to be given by Bela Bollobas on April 20th, 2007. There will be nine plenary talks, given by Paul Balister, Jozsef Balogh, Joshua Cooper, Alan Frieze, Zoltan Furedi, Boris Pittel, Prasad Tetali, Catherine Yan, and the rest of the time will be devoted to informal interactions. We encourage everyone with an interest in this field to attend. Some support for travel and lodging is available, with preference given to graduate students and recent Ph.Ds. If you are interested in attending please email mailto:rcs@math.unl.edu, indicating whether you would like to be considered for support. Please forward this announcement to people, especially graduate students, who might be interested.
