[5/08/09] Sorry. Unable to finish
grading today due to administrative and other problems. I will have
them graded before the end of today. Envelopes will be in your
mailboxes.
[5/06/09]
A small but obvious error corrected in the third bullet point of Problem 4.
[5/05/09]
Sorry. I will be in Carver on Wed 1pm-2pm, but I will be attending the
probability seminar in 202 Carver.
[5/05/09]Exam 2
has been posted in both
.tex and
.pdf on the
archive.
I will have copies outside of my office door. I will attempt to be in
the office Wednesday afternoon (1pm-3pm) to answer any questions, but I have
to be out in the morning. The exams are due by 3pm on Thursday, May 7.
You can hand it to me, I will have office hours 2pm-3pm to collect them and
will be around the office from 12noon-2pm. If you email them to me,
make sure I've acknowledged receipt. I will have them graded by 3pm on
Friday. I have to keep the exams, but I will make a photocopy for you
and try to return them to you personally, along with your course grade.
If not, I will put it in an envelope in your mailbox. If you don't
have a math dept. mailbox yet, email me how to get it to you.
[4/30/09] Notes on Erdős-Ko-Rado have
been posted on the

[4/27/09] You should have received an
email from the department telling you how to fill out a course evaluation
online. I want to know if those were received, so let me know in class on
Tuesday, 4/28.
[4/27/09] Notes on Kruskal-Katona have

due
Thursday, May 7 at 3pm. It will be posted online and paper versions
will be available outside of my office sometime between noon and 3 on
Tuesday, May 5.
[4/06/09] When should the final exam be?
Since it's a take-home, I want you to have a relatively-free 48 hours in
which to do it. I'll work around the core courses (M505: W
2:15-4:15pm; M511: T 7:30-9:30am; M516: M 9:45-11:45am), but the exam should
be due some time during exam week. Prepare to vote tomorrow.
[4/06/09] I fixed a typo on
HW4.
I also clarified Problem 2b.

generating functions.
[3/10/09] Exam 1 will be returned on
March 10. I will give you your grade so far in the semester. HW3
will be distributed then, too. Keep in mind that if you do a talk, you
will get a 20/20 on a homework assignment. To make sure it's anything
other than HW5, then you must tell me before I hand out the
homework you want to skip.
[3/03/09]
I will be in the office 12:10-1:00 on Wed., March 04 if you have any midterm
exam questions.

TeX solutions are nice, but because of the rigid timeline, not expected.
You may ask me for hints. I have time to meet in my office at 4pm on
Tuesday, if you request it. I can also meet you on Wednesday. Again,
by appointment.

Error on HW2, Problem 5 was fixed. It should just read as the usual
inclusion-exclusion statement.

The SIAM Activity Group on Discrete Mathematics is
sponsoring a track at the 2009 SIAM Annual meeting which will be held in
Denver from July 6-10, 2009. For more details about the meeting see
http://www.siam.org/meetings/an09/. Due to some generous funding from the National Science
Foundation, we now have limited
travel grants to help 10-12 graduate students in Discrete Math attend this
meeting.

[1/22/09] Just to clarify, office hours
are M1, M2, R2. As graduate students, you know you that you can find
me wandering around Carver Hall. I'm happy to discuss the class at any

post announcements and links. The Syllabus will largely remain the same
after I settle office hours. Updates will be made here.
