PRTAD is a database and structural bioinformatics system for protein modeling and analysis. It stores the information on "virtual" bond angles and torsion angles of protein residues as they are connected in the sequence and in particular, the statistical distributions of these angles in databases of known protein structures. Two layers of databases, structure database and angle database, have been implemented using MySQL. The former stores the structural information on a set of high resolution X-ray structures downloaded from PDB Data Bank and the latter the information collected from the structure database on angle distributions -- virtual bond angles for sequences of three residues, and virtual torsion angles for sequences of four residues.A web interface is built for PRTAD and can be accessed online. The system can currently take users’ queries on the statistical distributions of the virtual angles of any types, and generate and display the distribution data directly through the online interface. |
