Text Book:  Calculus by Varberg, Purcell, Rigdon – 9th Edition

 

Course description:  Please see http://orion.math.iastate.edu/calculus/ for course objectives and topics to be covered.  There are also old midterm and final exams posted at this address that may be used for practice and studying. Graphing calculator is allowed for this course.

 

Grading:

  

Midterm Exams: There will be four midterm exams (including one departmental evening midterm and three midterm given during the regular class times)
Final: The final will be 120 minutes long. The exact time for the final will be posted on this website later.
Homework: Recommended homework assignments will be given and posted on the course website, but will not be collected or graded. It is the student’s responsibility to do this homework and to keep up with the lectures.
Quizzes: A quiz  will be given each week that there is not a test , focusing on material from the past week, not including anything covered the day of the quiz.  At the end of the semester, the lowest two quiz scores will be dropped. The quizzes mainly consist of problems chosen from homework assignments.

Students are encouraged to study and work together but copying each other's work is not acceptable. Any cheating or dishonesty will be treated seriously, especially in an examination, and a grade of zero will usually be given. Final course grade will solely base on the performance on exams, quizzes and homework.
