### Homework assignments

Homework will be assigned in each class; ungraded homework will be discussed in each class.  Graded homework assignments given the previous week are due at the beginning of class each Tuesday, but will be collected at the end of Thursday without penalty (and you may want to keep your assignment for use in the Thursday quiz); they will not be accepted late.  In the table below, weeks are alternately colored.  Typically two of the problems are graded (each worth 2 points for correct answer with justification, or 1 point for wrong answer but reasonable attempt or right answer without justification) and 1 point is given for completeness (meaning all or almost all problems are done).

## Examination Information

• Test 1 was given Thursday Sept 27.  It will cover Chapters 1 and 2  (the sections covered in class and homework).  Any questions from these chapters (including graded homework problems) can be asked during review Tues 9/25.
• Test 2 was given Thursday Nov. 15.  It will cover Chapters 3, 4, 5  (the sections covered in class and homework).
• Final exam will be given Tuesday Dec. 11 12:00-2:00 p.m. in the classroom (205 Carver; time determined by the first contact Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. )  The final is comprehensive.  More information about topics covered will be given in class during the reviews 11/29 and 12/6.  Here are some points:
• Topics since last test (Chapter 6 Inner products, orthgonality, projections) will be emphasized since not previously tested
• Some topics from earlier get subsumed in others.  Fore example, solving a system of linear equations turns up in many contexts such as rfinding an eigenvector.  Techiniques of this tyoe are critical toknow but likely will not have a question specifically just on that.
• In addition to chapter 6, important topics include: eigenvalues/eigenvectors/diagonalization; determining whether a subset of a vector space is a subspace; finding a asis for s subspace; determining whether a function is a linear transformation, matrix of a linear transformation.
