High Trestle Trail Bridge  (near Madrid, ~20 miles from Ames)

The bridge is part of the much longer High Trestle trail for walking and biking but can be accessed relatively directly as follows:  Drive on Iowa Highway 210 one mile west of Madrid. Turn south on QF Lane (dirt) and go about a quarter mile. QF lane provides direct access to the High Trestle Trail about half a mile from the bridge. There is a parking lot on the right of QF Lane shortly before the trail. Walk west on the trail (paved, no cars) to the bridge. Allow at least 1.5 hours (15 min each way to/from the bridge, and an hour on the bridge). If you plan to walk back in the dark, bring a flashlight as bicycles use the trail and you need to be visible. In the summer you will need bug repellent om the evening. The lights are on only in the evening (how late depends on season).
