Math 481 Numerical Solution of Differential Equations
For the past few years I have been interested in compressed sensing (finding sparse solutions to underdetermined systems of linear equations).
For many years before that, my main research area was wavelets, in
particular multiwavelets. Other areas I have worked in in the past include
computer tomography, numerical methods based on Sinc functions, and numerical
solution of integral equations.
These are the notes I used for a Graduate Student Colloquium talk in 2012. I gave an overview of some of the numerical and symbolic calculators we have available in the department, specifically Mathematica, Maple, Matlab and Scilab. This is an update of similar talks from previous years.
