Read section 5.1.  Do page 230 # 3a, 8b, and 16cd.  (You should do 16ab in your head or on scratch paper first.  I will not grade these.  I will grade on the clarity of your statement of the proposition asked for in part c, and your proof in part d.)

Remember to use a different letter in the induction step than you use in the proposition you are proving.  (The book usually uses n in the proposition and k in the induction step.
