Here are some fractal bugs for your enjoyment.

All of the fractal bugs below were generated by dumping PBM files
from short c++ programs. These programs were compiled in unix or Linux
with g++. The unix shareware program XV was used to convert them to
.gif files. The programs created Newton's method basin-of-attraction
fractals shaded with
Clifford
Pickover's ArcTan coloring method. Getting bugs with spines is
tricky, send
me
e-mail and I'll explain. The "fossil" images were generated by using the
emboss algorithm that comes with XV. The large fractals that look like
plants or worms are the result of orbit capture tricks which I learned
about from the
Carlson Fractal
Gallery
WARNING: if you click on the bugs you can get other, different
fractals. Some of these are VERY large.
