This page is outdated. I no longer work at Iowa State.
The updated version of this page is at

I was born in Moscow,
Russia, and grew
up in Kiev, Ukraine. In the United
States, before coming to Ames,
I mostly lived in Philadelphia,
PA, where I studied at the
University of Pennsylvania. In
my spare time, I enjoy listening to and playing classical
guitar. I'm much (much!) better at listening.
I also like chess, but the
only chess variant where I used to have any success at all is suicide
chess. Here at Iowa State, I was a faculty adviser of the Russian-Speaking
Student Association (RSSA) in 2001-2006. Many of the links below
point to pages in Russian. |
Bouts
rimés - A versification game in Russian, part
of the Centrolit
group of Russian literary games. I collected some
of my bouts rimés for no particular reason.
Setevaya
Slovesnost' (Online Literature) - A Russian online literary
journal. In June 2005, it published two small collections of my
poems and short stories. So I am sort of a published author,
I guess.
Tenyota -
An online Russian literary competition. "Tenyota" is an archaic
Russian word for "web". Here is my
entry in the humor category for the 2002-2003 competition
(7th place out of 83 submissions). I am also a member of the Internet
jury of Tenyota (which has both an Internet jury and a professional
writers' jury).
The Russian
Journal - An online Russian magazine. Its "Net Culture"
department has recently asked me to write this
article.
the eXile -
An interesting, if controversial, look at Russia and the world
through the eyes of American expatriates.
Russian
Internet Radio and Video at the Russian Seattle
site.
Victor Kamkin
and Saint Petersburg, two online
Russian bookstores in the United States.
Ozon, an
online Russian bookstore in Russia. Possibly greater choice, but
deliveries can take a while (my experience is 2-3 months).
Filimon
2.2.10, a converter between various Russian encodings and
transliterated Russian. Useful if you need to type in Cyrillic
letters, but can only use Latin characters. You may want to take
a look at the transliteration
scheme first.
Guitar
Solo Publications (GSP), On-line
Guitar Archive (OLGA), Guitarist,
Harmony Central,
and Guitar Notes, sources
of guitar recordings, sheet music, transcriptions, tablatures,
etc.
The
Mathematics Genealogy Project. My academic roots go pretty
deep.
Ph.D.
Comics. How we got that way.
