An Introduction to LaTeX

LaTeX is a system for typesetting documents. It is particularly suitable for scientific and mathematical information. The final processed version of a LaTeX will generally be of professional-looking quality.

This web page is a simple, implicit introduction to the use of LaTeX. It merely includes three sample files, of increasing complexity, that demonstrate some of the features of LaTeX. You can learn plenty by looking at the finished documents, then examining the source files, and seeing how things are done.

LaTeX source files you can copy include:

• simple.tex, a simple file;
• sections.tex, an article with sections;
• complex.tex, a file that includes tables, graphics, bibliography, references, and all that;
• voronoi.eps, an Encapsulated PostScript file, created by MATLAB, and included in COMPLEX.TEX.

PostScript versions of the files include:

• simple.ps;
• sections.ps;
• complex.ps;

PDF versions of the files include:

• simple.pdf;
• sections.pdf;
• complex.pdf;
