Text:  Elementary Differential Equations with Boundary Value Problems,  fourth edition, C.H. Edwards and D.E. Penney.

Class Meetings:

Prerequisites:  It is essential for students in this class to be "fluent" in integration and differentiation techniques. I will not give a partial credit for problems with mistakes in "table" integrals.  Integration techniques widely used in this course are:  substitution, integration by parts, integration by partial fractions.

Material:
In this course we shall discuss the theory of differential equations with several methods
allowing to solve some classes of "simple" differential equations and systems of differential equations.
Classification of Differential equations.
First order differential equations.
Second order linear differential equations.
Systems of first order linear equations.
Series solutions of linear differential equations
The Laplace transform

Chapters: 1,2,3,4,5,6 ( not all sections will be covered in class, a few sections from other chapters might be covered).
Grading:
Grades will be based upon weekly quizzes,  two midterm exams and a final exam.
The worst score for the quizzes will be dropped.
Midterm exams are worth 20%  of a final grade each, final exam is worth 30%, and total quizzes score is worth 30% .  Extra points will be given towards the quizzes score for class participation and extra-credit homework assignments.
Homework assignments:  I will assign problems after each sections for you to practice. It is ESSENTIAL to do your homework for better understanding of the material and as the BEST way to prepare for quizzes and exams. I will not grade the homework problems but
will answer any questions about the homework  in class.

Grading scale:  0-50%  F,     51-70%  D,    70-79%  C,   80-89%  B,   90-100% A.
