Graphs of Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

(please wait while the applet loads...)

Consider the general exponential function f(x)=ax and its inverse logarithmic function g(x)=logax. The applet below illustrates how changes in the base a will affect the graphs of these two functions. The red graph is f(x)=ax, and the green graph is g(x)=logax. Use the slider to explore the effect of changing the value of the base a. Note that for every a, the graphs of f and g are reflections in the line y=x, which is shown on the graph in blue.
