Getting Started with Self-Paced Math 140

  1. Read the Course Summary. Familiarize yourself with the structure of this website, and the information it contains. If you could not attend either of the informational meetings during the first week of classes, you can pick up a handout outside my office (428 Carver). If you then have additional questions, contact me in person (428 Carver), by email, or phone (515-294-1282).

  2. Buy the textbook. There are two possible textbook packages that you can purchase. New packages include the textbook, Student Solutions Manual, CD-ROM (Windows format), and Schaum's Precalculus Outline. You can also buy used packages (probably at Campus Bookstore) which do not have the Schaum's Outline. Either is OK for the course. Also, if you have a Macintosh computer, you can go to the Math Computer Lab (449 Carver) and exchange the Windows CD-ROM for a Macintosh version.

  3. If you are a distance education student (i.e., not in residence at ISU), you will need to make special arrangements for a proctor for your exams. Also, in this case you should be registered in section XW.

  4. Start your coursework with the Detailed Schedule page.
  5. If you need help with your coursework, take advantage of the resources listed on the Help page.
