Math 140 Midterm Exam #2

Date and Time: Thursday April 5, 6:30-8:00 pm

Place: 101 Carver

Material covered: 1.8, 2.1-6, 3.1-4, 4.1-2

Format: The exam is a written test consisting of approximately 12 short answer problems and 4 longer problems. Most of the short answer problems will be graded 0, 1/2, or full credit, so you will have to show your work for these problems. You will also need to show all of your work on the longer problems for full credit (and partial credit is possible on these problems). The exam counts 50 points toward your final grade. Bring your student ID card, calculator, and a few sheets of blank scratch paper to the exam. The exam is closed book and closed notes.

Review material: The chapter reviews are a good way to start reviewing the material. Reread any sections which seem fuzzy to you. After that, you should do lots of problems from all of the material covered. Some sources of problems are:

Remember that you are not only required to learn to solve certain problems, but you also need to learn the material well enough to solve them in a fixed amount of time. You don't want to have to spend exam time trying to remember or figure out how to solve the problems. So practice until you can do the problems quickly and easily. That way you'll have time to go back and check your work carefully.

Conflicts and Illness: If you have another class during the scheduled exam time, or some other bonafide conflict that cannot possibly be changed, please contact me before 4pm on the day of the test, and I will arrange to give you a makeup exam on the following day. Likewise, if you are too ill to take the exam, contact me on the day of the test to arrange for a makeup (and you should be prepared to bring a note from your doctor or the Health Center in this case).
