Math 140 Final Exam

Date and Time: Wed. May 2, 12-2 pm

Place: 124 Ross

Material covered: comprehensive

Format: The exam is a written test consisting of 17 short answer problems and 4 longer problems. 12 of the short answer problems will be graded right or wrong (no partial credit), and the others will be graded 0, 1/2, or full credit, so you will have to show your work for these problems. You will also need to show all of your work on the longer problems for full credit (and partial credit is possible on these problems). The exam counts 100 points toward your final grade. Bring your student ID card, calculator, and a few sheets of blank scratch paper to the exam. The exam is closed book and closed notes, and you will NOT be provided with any formulas.

Review material: The chapter reviews are a good way to start reviewing the material. Reread any sections which seem fuzzy to you. After that, you should do lots of problems from all of the material covered. Some sources of problems are:

Remember that you are not only required to learn to solve certain problems, but you also need to learn the material well enough to solve them in a fixed amount of time. You don't want to have to spend exam time trying to remember or figure out how to solve the problems. So practice until you can do the problems quickly and easily. That way you'll have time to go back and check your work carefully. However, time should not be a problem on this exam since you have two full hours to complete it.

Conflicts and Illness: If you have another final exam during the scheduled exam time, please contact me before 4pm on the day before the exam. Likewise, if you are too ill to take the exam, contact me on the day of the scheduled Final Exam (and you should be prepared to bring a note from your doctor or the Health Center in this case). If you cannot take the exam for either of these reasons, you will receive an Incomplete in the course.
