We will cover Chapters I-IV and VII-IX.

REQUIRED WORK: Your course grade will be determined from (percentages subject
to adjustment):
- 30% Written homework. A written assignment will be due approximately
every other week. You may work with at most one partner on
homework, and submit work jointly if you do.
In addition, ``Exercises'' will be assigned from time to time.
Solutions to Exercises are not to be handed in and will not be
graded, but the tests will assume that you know how to do them.
- 20% In-Class homework. On some homework sets you will work with
assigned teams and present solutions in class.
- 10% Term Paper: A report on a topic
or application of Modern Algebra.
- 40% Midterm Exams (2) and Final Exam
Course Grades for students who provided a written request and a code name.
