REQUIRED WORK

Your course grade will be determined from (percentages subject to adjustment):
  • [10%] You will have two weeks to pass the ALEKS calculus pre-assessment with a score of 80% or better.
  • [10%] Daily class participation. You will be called on to present solutions to homework problems on the blackboard.
  • [34%] Quizzes. At each Friday class meeting, a 20-minute quiz will be given. Your best 10 scores on the 14 quizzes count toward this part of your grade. There are no make-ups. Quiz problems may address anything covered up to the preceding Tuesday.
  • [18%] Written homework. About a dozen problems from the textbook will be assigned during the term. Working in small teams you will write up the solutions.
  • [28%] Exams. There will be a ninety-minute Departmental Midterm Exam and a two-hour Departmental Final Exam.
Consult the Calendar for Math 165 §E for reading and homework assignments and exam dates and locations.

To prepare for class each day:

  • Read the assigned section(s) in the text.
  • Solve the practice problems; prepare to present your solutions on the board in class.
